This week in school...

We continue to have problems with traffic in the village at key times, especially at the end of the school day. Although parents can use the Village Hall car park, it is often underused with parents parking on the crossroads instead. We do receive frequent complaints from residents about this and other traffic complaints. Many parents have been extremely helpful during our building work and have adhered to our ‘one way’ system for dropping off. It is particularly at the end of the day that problems continue to arise because, understandably, parents have to park and leave their cars. Can we urge parents once again to park with consideration for the residents. A full letter regarding changes to picking up and dropping off will follow shortly.

We would really welcome volunteers to help organise and/or run stalls at the annual summer fete. Also, as many of the new committee are new, it would be really helpful if people could get in touch early with offers of help (it reduces the stress!) Please contact Simon Hawkesley if you can help, or alternatively come to the next planning meeting on 4th June (time TBC). All offers of help are very welcome.

We have been alerted to an extremely disturbing and frightening email that is being sent to children and young people.  It is a chain email which contains very graphic details and threats about what will happen if the email is not forwarded on.  It is titled "Mickey Mouse is Coming", but some children forwarding it on have changed the title to read 'Do Not Open', to protect their friends. It goes on for several pages and is so explicit that some children have been very anxious and worried about it and too frightened to tell anyone. We will update parents on this or other threats as appropriate. We also have copies of the ‘Know It All’ disc regarding online safety in the slots by the school office. Please borrow one if you would like to know more about online security for your children.

Upton Noble School is set in the beautiful Somerset countryside, near Bruton. Our dedicated staff provide the children from the surrounding villages and towns with a stimulating and challenging curriculum in the context of a calm, orderly environment. As a Christian foundation, we believe in helping our children to reach their potential physically, academically, socially and spiritually.

Our school, which was founded in 1965, is a light, attractive building with wonderful views across the Brue Valley . We have our own outdoor swimming pool and changing rooms, sports field, two playgrounds and nature area. Our children are encouraged to appreciate and care for their environment at a local, and a global level through School Council, Gardening Club and an ongoing commitment to sustainability.

Our excellent sporting facilities and surrounding environment enable our children to participate and succeed in a wide range of sporting endeavours, from cross-country running to netball and rugby, and our children regularly win local and regional tournaments. We believe that through sport and physical activity, our children learn to respect the abilities of others, cope with the challenges of a competitive environment and adopt a healthy lifestyle.

But healthy lifestyles don't begin and end on the sports field. We have a kitchen on site, which serves hot, freshly-prepared, nutritious meals every lunchtime. Over 80% of our children take up the option of a hot school meal. Have a look at this month's menu to see why!
