This week in school...
Beech Class went to
Dorchester
on Monday to visit the Tutankhamen exhibition. The children learned a lot about this remarkable period of history. Thea said, ‘The best bit was seeing the mummies! The remakes of the artefacts were really good too – they looked real! It was all brilliant.’ Thanks to Miss Rowe and her team of helpers for organising a memorable trip.
On Monday, the children will be visited by Massukos, a band from
Mozambique
. The band are playing at Glastonbury Festival this weekend and have sold 80,000 copies of their debut album!! The children will be doing workshops based around hygiene and sanitation in the developing world. If any parents would like to see the final part of the workshop, you are welcome to come in from 3.10pm and see the band perform. As part of the workshop, any children who play instruments can bring them in to school – they may be needed! Many thanks to Dean Broderick and Maddie for organising the visit – it promises to be a memorable occasion.
Many thanks to all the people who have been fire stewarding at Pilton this week. The school will raise about £1700 from people giving up their time to join the Upton Noble team of stewards. Let’s hope that the weather stays fair for the weekend!
We are planning to offer Cycling Awareness training in the near future. We will need a dedicated group of adults to do a training course (approx. 2 ½ hours) and then lead the training for the children either in July or September. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Mrs Hartnell in the office.
Flora have launched a new website http://tinyurl.com/5bqwkm There are lots of healthy recipe ideas and other bits of health advice on the site which parents may find useful. Of particular interest to us at school is the part of the website where you can type in a code from your tub of Flora and a donation of 40p will be made to the school. Any donations parents can make will be gratefully received!

Upton
Noble
School
is set in the beautiful
Somerset
countryside, near Bruton. Our dedicated staff provide the children from the surrounding villages and towns with a stimulating and challenging curriculum in the context of a calm, orderly environment. As a Christian foundation, we believe in helping our children to reach their potential physically, academically, socially and spiritually.
Our school, which was founded in 1965, is a light, attractive building with wonderful views across the
Brue
Valley
. We have our own outdoor swimming pool and changing rooms, sports field, two playgrounds and nature area. Our children are encouraged to appreciate and care for their environment at a local, and a global level through School Council, Gardening Club and an ongoing commitment to sustainability.
Our excellent sporting facilities and surrounding environment enable our children to participate and succeed in a wide range of sporting endeavours, from cross-country running to netball and rugby, and our children regularly win local and regional tournaments. We believe that through sport and physical activity, our children learn to respect the abilities of others, cope with the challenges of a competitive environment and adopt a healthy lifestyle.
But healthy lifestyles don't begin and end on the sports field. We have a kitchen on site, which serves hot, freshly-prepared, nutritious meals every lunchtime. Over 80% of our children take up the option of a hot school meal. Have a look at this month's menu to see why!
